Choose and Book - a tool to support the management of referrals (PDF, 76Kb) - guidance based on the 2010 Kings Fund report, 'Referral Management - Lessons for success'
- Advice and Guidance - a tool to support referral management in Choose and Book (PDF, 474Kb). This functionality has always been available within Choose and Book, but has not been made available by all provider organisations. It is often not utilised to its maximum potential by referrers, nor promoted within local health communities. Therefore, all the benefits of using Advice and Guidance have not been fully realised. This document outlines those benefits with real examples of how A&G works in some communities. It also provides help in setting up and utilising A&G services.
- 2 Week Wait priority Symptomatic Breast Referrals (PDF, 167Kb). Guidance for providers and referrers on how to support 2 Week Wait (2WW) priority symptomatic breast referrals in Choose and Book.
- Priority Treatment for Armed Forces Veterans (PDF, 36Kb). The current NHS Operating Framework states "The existing arrangements for giving priority access to veterans for service-related conditions, subject to clinical need, is an issue that all PCTs and providers should now be delivering for all referrals." This document contains links to policy documents and guidance on where responsibility lies.
- Best practice guidance for Urgent Referrals for suspected cancer - Two Week Waits v2.0 (PDF, 233Kb) - This guidance recommends a solution to the requirement to integrate urgent referrals for suspected cancer (two week wait (2WW)) referral pathways into Choose and Book. This proposal enables current Choose and Book functionality to support a consistent approach to the management of 2WW referrals, which should enable Trusts to make the best use of NICE guidance while allowing for local adaptation.

Revised guidance document showing how named clinician functionality supports referrals to consultant-led teams. - Clinical responsibilities when delegating actions in Choose and Book (PDF, 105Kb)
When a clinician (e.g. GP, Consultant or other Healthcare professional) delegates the responsibility of referring, redirecting or rejecting referrals through Choose and Book, the responsibility for the team members actions remains with the GP or consultant. This fact sheet details these responsibilities.

This guidance covers the correct access and process options to gain a referral letter.
- Consent flags – A guide to managing patient information sharing in electronic systems (PDF, 30Kb). explains how consent flags should be used to record patient consent or dissent to the sharing of their information.
- Managing Appointment Slot Issues using Choose and Book Release 5.0 (PDF, 843Kb). This document provides guidance on the processes that should be followed when patients or professional users of Choose and Book are unable to book an appointment.
- Supporting Alternative Care Pathways using Choose and Book (PDF, 768Kb). Release 5.0 of Choose and Book introduced new functionality to support more specialist services being listed on the system, along with services that have been set up within localities (e.g. as part of practice based commissioning initiatives)

This guidance has been prepared to help organisations understand the importance of access for all within the Choose and Book application. It is for organisations providing services to NHS patients. - Best Practice Guidance for managing referrals into Mental Health Services V2.0 (PDF, 369Kb) - This guidance aims to enable providers to implement a consistent approach to referrals for patients requiring mental health services whilst allowing for some local flexibility, and draws on feedback from clinicians and managers who have highlighted a number of key issues that need to be addressed during implementation
- Clinical Assessment Services V5.0 (PDF, 309Kb). This document aims to guide organisations in using Choose and Book Clinical Assessment Service (CAS) functionality to best effect in the light of recent policy changes. It draws on real life examples and is intended to help health communities to address some of the process challenges that they face.

Technical Deployment and Troubleshooting
- Choose and Book Install Reference Document v8.4 (PDF, 796Kb) - The purpose of this document is to provide local IT teams with a consolidated set of information relating to Choose and Book installations. Contains Desktop Infrastructure, Connection Troubleshooting and Performance Issues
- The Components commonly used to make a successful booking diagram provides a high-level overview of these local components, whose implementation needs to be planned and coordinated.
- Certificate Renewal (PDF, 228Kb) - This document provides examples of certificate renewal reminder prompts that users may see when the certificate renewal takes place in January 2011. It details actions that users will need to take if they do not have the ActiveX control installed on their PCs
